Arsène Lupin is a French TV show (1971 - 1974) which was co-produced with French, German, Canadian, Belgian, Dutch, Swiss, Italian and Austrian TV stations. It is loosely based on the novels by Maurice Leblanc featuring master thief Arsène Lupin who was featured in 17 novels and 39 short stories.[2]
Development
[edit]Georges Descrières' portrayal of Arsène Lupin showed more similarity to Graf Yoster than to Maurice Leblanc's original depiction of his character. He behaved in the first place as a perfect gentleman who never got angry. Besides rescuing damsels in distress Lupin took on (other) criminals, competing with their wit and intelligence. Either he stole paintings from rich people who had to be considered white-collar criminals or he acted as a detective who derailed criminal schemes. Among the guest stars were German actors such as Günter Strack and Sky du Mont.
Jean-Paul Salomé said in his commentary on the DVD version of his film, film Arsène Lupin (2004), that he had liked this TV series as a child.

Who is Arsène Lupin?
Arsène Lupin is a gentleman thief, who robs people of their jewels and money but never uses violence.
A song about this famous French fictional hero got to number one in the charts in 1975.
Arsène Lupin, is a sort of Robin Hood and is a master of disguise.

The hero has many identities: Arsène Lupin or Raoul d’andrésy, he mixes with thieves and robbers as well as the wealthy.
His creator, who liked to give the characters in his novels depth, gave him a rich and complex past.
We discover that Arsène committed his first robbery when he was 6, to avenge his mother’s honor.
Then, a treacherous countess puts him on the track of 4 treasures linked to the history of France. He becomes obsessed with finding them.

Georges Descrières (15 April 1930 – 19 October 2013) was a French actor.[1] He attended in 52 films move television shows between 1954 and 1996.
